The Verb I am
Following Isadora Duncan´s approach towards integrating dance with other types of learning, Anna Dart undertook contemporary dance studies in 2018. Anna says, "I challenged myself pursuing my old dream in order to create a healthier environment within my emotional and physical vessel. It had an impact to the material world: my paintings became bigger, there is gravity, intricate gestures, complex and simple ones, there is strength, movement and stillness. I have always had a nomad spirit. Dance is such a fascinating country to travel to. And it is almost impossible to make the map of it, transcribe the choreography. I made a try to paint it".
‘The Verb I am’ acrylic paintings is a celebration of femininity, flows of consciosness, movement, and beauty. The titles of each painting refer to the basic movements in dance. ‘The Verb I am’ takes you into depths of imagination and Gaudí´s arquitecture, and fills the world the warmth of the Mediterranean sea.
The series was first showcased in eco-friendly boutique Friday´s Project in Barcelona.
In August 2022 Anna Dart refered to the series to make her first fashion digital fabrics and used “Turn” painting for the collaboration with the digital fashion house The Fabricant and the female-focused community The World of Women.
{ whisper : “ i am , is not what i used to be “ }
because of the fall , what i am became i was
things fall apart , i am left me , looked for a new host , so i was left with i was …
that looped past , veiling the present , turning am’s into was’ … …
but now , i am came back to me …
like a lost lamb , i summoned it with dashes of light and colour , so it could find me from afar
i hurled my i was into the heavens and as my i am hurdled toward me …
that stubborn little conjugation , so fickle and fine , often frightened away by other tenses like i will be and i would be …
my i am changes , transmutes and morphs … an amoebic goo that expands and contracts , mimicking my lungs …
::: this ancient slime , it finds new manifestations and chromatic wonders :::
my i am makes a series of whirling dynamic movements dictating a set of cosmic coordinates ,
mapping out my how , when and where forming a tetrahedron , as miraculous as the facets of quartz …
::: hop onto that crystalline :::
and what about my what ? the relationship between my i am and my what is like a fractal pattern :
::: never disclosing the original copy ::: who came first ? my i am and my what are like twins :
one born just a little before the other , genetically identical , with some nuanced differences …
and what about my why ? my why presents itself when i am still , or when i move …
a comical dichotomy that never ceases to dazzle and befuddle me …
my why is my north star , only visible in the dark , i seek you out through movement even if i can’t see you ;
you omnipresent sparkle …
now , my i am back in me …
i swallowed that viscous light , that nebulous prismatic pleasure
[ i recalibrate , settings back to default a little hole in my chest patched up again
glittery sprinkles rolling out of my orifices teasing my senses ]
