Watercolour “Tacto”, 2012 by Anna Dart

Created in 2012, the early piece “Tacto” by Anna Dart showcases her raw talent on a pristine white paper, where the stark use of black watercolor forms a compelling contrast.

On the right, we are presented with a male form — a model captured from head to hips in raw, unabashed nudity. The striking black abstract against the white paper on the left and central parts of the canvas isn’t merely a backdrop, but a powerful element in itself. The handprint, reminiscent of the artist's touch, almost seems like an attempt to bridge the void, to reach out, or perhaps to grasp the very essence of life.

The model's own touches add layers to this narrative. One hand cradles his face, perhaps in contemplation or acceptance, while the other shields or comforts his heart, symbolizing introspection or self-protection. It's a pose of self-embrace, an acknowledgment of his own being, vulnerabilities, and strengths. Yet, amidst this highly detailed portrayal, Dart infuses a transcendental quality into the artwork. Time becomes moot here. While the model may age, evolve, and transform, the painting remains unchanging, eternal. The reflection he sees in the artwork today will be a window to his past tomorrow. The very act of touch, of grasping, taking hold of something, becomes metaphorical — is it about understanding oneself, reaching out to the infinite, or merely feeling one's own existence?

“Tacto” concentrates on the immersive aspect of art that eludes verbalization, a dimension that makes use of the multisensory experience and addresses the model and the audience in a direct manner. The painting, in its silent elegance, whispers tales of identity, existence, and the profoundness of touch.
